Fat Thursday

Fat Thursday (German Schmutziger Donnerstag, Polish Tłusty czwartek) is a traditional German and Polish feast marking the last Thursday before Lent. It is similar to, but should not be confused with, the French festival of Mardi Gras ("Fat Tuesday"). Traditionally it is a day of gluttony and belly-worship, when people meet in their homes or cafés with their friends and relatives and eat large quantities of sweets, cakes and other meals forbidden during the lent. Among the most popular all-national dishes served on that day are berliner or pączki, fist-sized donuts filled with rose marmalade, and faworki, French dough fingers served with lots of powdered sugar.

In 2006, Fat Thursday is on February 23.

Going to have birthday drink this friday (24/02/06) night upstairs at bar Cleveland (corner of Cleveland and Bourke St) after 7.30.
Not the greatest venue, though I left it to the last moment (wanting to avoid the subject) to book somewhere.

Everybody is most welcome to come along - hopefully it will be very informal.
Also bring whoever as long as they don't destroy the furniture or anything.
