Streaming servers (and geekspeek)
The software I used was a combination of Quicktime Broadcaster and Darwin Streaming Server. Broadcaster makes the video stream while Dawin Streaming Server, well, Serves it.
I don't want to sound like an ad for Apple- but I'm particularily impressed with Darwin Streaming Server.
It's one of the golden things that have come out of Apple's Darwin project which is the open source underbelly of OSX. Its interesting to see that Apple turned around at the point when M$ was waging war against linux and the open source community, and decided to test the waters of open source.
I've noticed that Darwin Streaming Server has been compiled for Linux and Windows too. Which excites me because I'm going to setup a linux box here and keep some video on it to stream to the xbox cause I've filled up the 200 gigs with videos and games.
Unless there is a better streaming service that anybody knows about for Linux???
I particularily like Dawin Streaming Servers web interface- I really think that using browsers for maintenance is cool. But then again I've always liked CUPS and ofcourse I've always been a big fan of Webmin.
Incidentally I'm starting to use Quicksilver more and more since Tali hassled me to use it the other day. Its basically like spotlight just a million times better. In other words- if you are using OSX and aren't using Quicksilver: DOWNLOAD IT NOW.
Did you know that if you write a bunch of words in Firefox's url bar (i.e. don't type in a valid url) - it uses google's "I'm feeling lucky" function and takes you to what it thinks is the best match with those words??
The things you find out when you are playing with your computer...
